People in Action (Yorkshire) is a thriving Leeds based charity, established in 1983 to benefit people with learning disabilities, Autism and similar conditions. The charity makes a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable and socially isolated; inspiring and empowering people to recognise their potential, fulfill their aspirations and lead safer, healthier, better connected lives.

The charity provides a range of innovative, inclusive, person centred services which reflect the needs of the people it supports. The activities are wide ranging and include the provision of opportunities for sports and leisure, learning, employment, health, wellbeing and the development of life skills. The range of activities runs from practical courses in employability to social groups that meet in the community to enjoy leisure time together.  Through individual care packages the charity also provides practical one to one support tailored to the needs to the individual.

Support Worker – Count Me In One to One Service 

Do you want to join our dedicated team of support workers and make a real difference to our members lives?

We have an exciting opportunity that has arisen within our Count Me In Service (One to One support) for support workers who are available to work during the day, evenings and weekends. 

The role will be to provide one to one support that is tailored to meet the individual needs of the member and fulfil their personal goals.  The successful candidate will support our members who have mild, moderate to complex needs and/or challenging behaviour, with learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s and mental health difficulties. 

If you are an individual that craves variety, a support worker role with People in Action can give you this. No two days are quite the same. You will be supporting members to gain an education, supporting them and developing life skills such as financial budgeting, weekly shopping, attending medical appointments and enjoying fun activities such as meals out, cinema trips and attending community events/groups. 

This will require a flexible and imaginative approach to fulfilling the choices, requiring building up of knowledge and contacts within local services.       

We are looking for an individual with a minimum of 12 months experience working within a care / support work setting. The individual will have the ability to encourage and engage our members to meet their needs and aspirations. It would be advantageous if you were a car driver with business insurance. Expenses are paid for mileage use at 45p per mile.

Salary: £9 per hour

Hours: We have approx. 30+ hours available to match. Ideally, we are looking for 3 x part time staff to fulfil these hours, however we would consider full time applicant too.  

Location: It would be desirable to receive applications from candidates within the East Leeds area, however applications from across the whole of Leeds will be considered.

Group Lead Support Worker – Beehive Group 

Do you want to join our dedicated team of group lead support workers and make a real difference to our members lives?

We have an exciting opportunity that has arisen within our Changing Lives Service for a Group Lead Support Worker who will lead the Beehive Group, based in Crossgreen Community Centre, Otley.

The successful candidate, with the support for the group support and volunteers, will support our members to participate and learn life skills in health and wellbeing, independence, sport, social and leisure activities by delivering regular 12-week tailored programmes based on the needs of the group members.

You will support our members who have mild, moderate to complex needs and/or challenging behaviour, with learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s and mental health difficulties. 

If you are an individual that craves variety, a group lead role with People in Action can give you this. No two weeks are quite the same. Our Changing Lives Clubs are a chance for our members to get together on an evening to take part in fun activities and learn new skills

We are looking for an experienced and approachable individual with experience within the learning disability sector. It will be important for the candidate to be committed to delivering outcome-based activities with a strong person-centred approach.

Salary: £10.33 per hour

Hours: Thursday evenings for a 3-hour group session. Plus, an additional hour to be worked flexibly for planning and preparation of the group.
