Recognision of our Staff and their Inclusive Behaviour

As part of National Inclusion Week, today we are recognising our colleagues.

We asked our staff to nominate other staff members and volunteers they work with who actively promote and inspire inclusion at People in Action.

We got lots of responses from staff members.

Here are a few of them:

  • I want to recognise my colleague Sue Ho for working really hard to bring members together. They meet up on a Wednesday and she really helps them to keep connected.

  • I want to recognise my colleague Louise. Louise used to be a member of the group, before taking on some responsibility to volunteer at Outdoor Pursuits Group. On walking activities, Louise will slow down her own pace to buddy up with members who need extra support linking arms to help them feel stable and supported, making everyone feel included regardless of ability.

  • I recognise my colleague Leigh-Ann Hays. Last year was a difficult year for me and Leigh-Ann empowered me, helping me to focus on positivity, reminding me that if I can’t change something then I should not focus on the things I cant change.

  • I recognise my colleague John Williams for always impressing me when he speaks about the members he supports; he can really put himself in their shoes and understand them as individuals. He's supported a real big mix of members with different needs coming from different backgrounds and really gives it his all.

  • I recognise my colleague Jo Timbs for not putting any pressure on me – I could ring up, off-load and speak my mind. She was really good at listening which was what I needed at that time. She is really supportive.

  • I recognise my colleague Jacqui Phillips. Jacqui runs our DIY art group. She runs a popular and busy art group for over 15 members with a huge range of abilities. She finds exciting activities which allow everyone to get involved and find their own way of engaging in and enjoying art.

  • I recognise my colleague Dionne Dougan for being amazing at including child members during lockdown - one child could not complete the activities, so Dionne made and sewed a sensory blanket and posted this for the girl so she could recieve an inclusive activity during lockdown.

  • I recognise my colleagues Bernard and Shelley formaking sure that their varied programme of activities is always inclusive for everyone. Members who want to can have a role in their group that plays to their skills, builds their self worth and empowers them. Potternewton group members have told me they feel part of a community not just a social group
