We have received funding from Leeds Community Foundation / Jimbo’s fund to run a pilot project specifically for older people with learning disabilities aged 50+ to tackle social isolation, raise awareness of the health inequalities and improve access to appropriate health care
The sessions are for anyone over 50 who is learning disabled or autistic, but if younger members wish to join they will be welcome (they must understand the sessions will be low impact and geared toward older members).
The sessions will run for 12 weeks starting on Monday 31st January until 29th April 2022. Each session will be 1 hour long and run by a facilitator and a moderator who will be either a staff member or volunteer.
Monday 2pm – Being Social and Part of My Community – Sherieda and community partners.
Each week we will have a discussion about how we socialise, things we like to do and things we would like to try. We will also have guest speakers from our community partnerships, Opera North, Feel Good Factor, Slung Low and others.
Wednesday 6pm – Being Physically Healthy – Mark is running a low impact, gentle exercise and chair based exercise programme
Friday 2pm – Being Mentally Healthy – Treasa will provide discussion around managing stress, anxiety and sleeping well. She will also facilitate breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques and gentle yoga.
